250,000 young Catholics gather in Sydney
JNI 649 - This week an estimated 250,000 young Catholics from across the globe will gather in Sydney, Australia, for the World Youth Days. This event, that is being held every three years, is the largest youth event in the world and will draw more visitors to Sydney than the Olympic Games of 2000.
Last weekend a large wooden cross arrived in the harbor of Circular Quay and was transported by young people to the area where the World Youth Days are taking place and where pope Benedict XVI performed an opening service. The event's theme is based on Jesus' words in Acts 1,8: 'You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you will be My witnesses.' During one of the services the participants will be invited to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
